“Don’t believe everything you see on Facebook”, at least that’s what the new study by two cyber security researchers concludes. These researchers have examined thousands of Facebook ads and found almost Half of them to be FAKE. These includes fashion and luxury goods like Ray Bay sunglasses, Louis Vuitton bags, and Ralph Lauren polo shirts.
At the first sight, these appear to be a legitimate one. Why would it won’t be, After all they are Posted on Facebook.com. When clicked, they lead you to Websites that look like real one but real story remains hidden.”You don’t know where you’re going to end up,” Andrea Stroppa, one of the researchers, told a techblog. “And in many cases your credit card is at risk, thanks to obscure payment systems backed by companies you have no idea who they are.”
If the researchers point is being viewed, then , Social Networking websites are responsible for protecting it’s users from these Hoax Websites and advertisements.. Facebook spokesperson said “We prohibit fraudulent or misleading claims or content, and to enforce our terms and policies, we have invested significant resources in developing a robust advertising review program that includes both automated and manual review of ads,”
“Facebook should do more, and must do more against this,”
What is even hard is to make which ads are Fake and which are not. Moreover, the social networking giant doesn’t even publish this data like Google which removed about 350 millions of bad ads in 2013 and number will certainly increased in 2014.
If the study of Researchers are to weighted, then , about 24% of fashion and luxuary ads were found to be FAKE one. Some of them has even being removed but Facebook have many more to go.
